The Sixty Plus Club in Potters Bar and South Mimms supports the over 60s. It is open every weekday and provides a two course lunch (at cost price) as well as entertainment and is a great way for older local residents to meet other people.
“I started supporting the charity when I first became a Councillor,” says Conservative Councillor Peter Knell for Potters Bar Furzefield Ward, “I thought what the work they were doing and the effect it had on the local community was so wonderful I became a Trustee”
The Club was set up by Councillor Mrs Gregory, Chairman of the Potters Bar Urban District Council and Mrs Stockdale, and is part subsidised by Hertsmere Council.
The club is run almost entirely by its volunteers who serve food, wash up and also help members with form filling or making appointments if needed.
“The 60 Plus is such an important club for older and vulnerable people I wanted to help in any way I could” Says Cllr Knell, “I decided to contact local schools to see if they would donate a percentage of their Harvest Festival food collection to the charity”
These schools; Dame Alice Owens, Little Heath, Pope Paul and Ladbroke were more than happy to get involved.
“Its so fantastic to see the local community coming together” added Cllr Knell
The club is open every week day from 10am - 1pm and cooks for approximately 30 people a day.
