Many residents have been in contact with us as their County Councillor and Borough councillors for Bushey to try and understand better a draft plan by Hertfordshire County Council to house and educate displaced refugee children at Heath House in Bushey.
As your locally elected representatives we have had many discussions with county officers to explain the complications in such a scheme coming forward at this time to that location.
There is no doubt that Bushey residents would wish to help those who are in need from other countries. At the same time, we need to be aware of the needs of all relevant local communities around and about the Heath House site.
We are pleased to confirm that after meetings with the leadership of Hertfordshire county council, the leaders of the local religious communities as well as our member of Parliament, Oliver Dowden CBE, that the County Council, whilst still working to provide such accommodation and education facilities for these young people, will be looking for more suitable sites elsewhere within the borough and county.
Everyone we have spoken to has offered full support to the County Council in helping them to achieve this aim, as it is important we all work together to help those coming over from other countries particularly when they have suffered and witnessed the atrocities of war.
